Denmark Calling! Inspired by Danish Modern Style
From the beginning, Era Design has been inspired by movements in art and design: everything from the Hellenistic period through to Etruscan Revival, Arts & Crafts to American Art Deco. Recently we've been busy reviving the classic details seen in Victorian, Edwardian and Art Nouveau jewellery and craftwork. While coin-edge milgrain, hand engraving and rose cut diamonds still make our hearts flutter, we've also been drawn to the clean lines and subtly organic lines of Danish Modernism.
For years, Vancouver has had an affinity for Scandinavian modern design, starting in the 60's when Canadian woodworkers first began to look to the works of Ole Wanscher, Hans Olsen, Borge Mogensen and Hans Wegner. Today, Vancouver is home to flourishing vintage Danish Modern and mid-century furniture advocates such as Full House and Refind. What's more, our own Commercial Drive neighbourhood is home to some of Vancouver's earliest Danish teak and mid-century modern enthusiasts like Attic Treasures and By Design Modern. This uniquely Scandinavian combination of aesthetic and craft is one that we very much take to heart. Last year we launched a series of modern inspired sterling silver jewellery called Cado (yes, after the wall-slung storage guru Poul Cadovius.) These are available in-store and online at our Etsy shop. One of the latest editions to our engagement ring collection is Arch. A rose gold solitaire split shanked engagement ring inspired by the gently tapered wood-turned details seen on some 1950's and 1960's teak furniture from Denmark and Finland. Tusind tak!
