Natural Diamonds
Natural diamonds have a unique one-of-a-kind element to them. Located hundreds of kilometres below earth's surface, they take over one billion years to form - amazing!
Where does Era Design source their natural diamonds?
We source our natural diamonds from trusted suppliers with closed-loop tracking from mining, to cutting and polishing here in Vancouver! Our Canadian mined diamonds follow ethical labour, trade, and environmental standards. Canada is one of the few countries in the world that has banned the sale of conflict diamonds. We source Canadian diamonds when we can, however not all diamond shapes are easily accessible with a Canadian origin. The diamonds we source have been verified through the Kimberly Process.
Lab Grown Diamonds
Lab grown and Natural diamonds have the exact same chemical and crystal structure. Lab diamonds are graded and cut to the same standard as mined diamonds, and can only be detected with specialized gemological equipment.
Why go with a lab grown diamond?
Lab grown diamonds are 30 - 50% cheaper than natural diamonds. They are also produced with a lower overall impact on the environment. The energy used to create a diamond in a lab is far less than a large scale diamond mine. If ethics are a concern, lab grown diamonds are the more ethical option to natural diamonds.
Moissanite
Moissanite is a beautiful stone, that is a great alternative to a diamond at a lower price point! Moissanite found in jewellery today is lab created, as natural moissanite is very rare. Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamonds, which gives it a rainbow sparkle! They reach a 9.5 on Mohs hardness scale, which is close to diamonds (10) in hardness, making them a great option for everyday wear.
Sapphires
Sapphires are excellent stones for daily wear. Since they measure 9 on the hardness scale, they are fairly resistant to chipping and scratching. Sapphire is part of the corundum family and occurs in every colour of the rainbow – a fact may come as a surprise to those who automatically think “blue”! Our sapphires most commonly originate from Montana in the USA, and Australia. Other origins include: Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Nigeria, and Madagascar.
Other Gemstones

We estimate 10 - 12 weeks once a stone and design have been finalized. However, unexpected delays may occur. We are a small team handcrafting each unique piece by hand, thank you for your patience in the process!
Possible delays can include:
Casting fails
- Each custom wax model is sent for casting, and due to the nature of the casting process (which is done by hand) there can be occasional delays due to a casting fail.
Wax adjustments or reprints
- We take the utmost care in perfecting the measurements of your custom wax design. Occasional reprints can occur due to customer requests or printing fails.
Supplier delays
- We work closely with an out-of-house casting team, as well as stone setters and stone suppliers. Delays can occur, mainly due to illness or shipping delays.
In the event of a delay the team at Era makes sure to notify customers as soon as possible.

This is done through detailed photos and videos at multiple points during the process. Once completed we will ship your finished piece!
Please note we do not ship to PO Boxes as our shipments require a signature upon arrival.
Yes! We work with stones currently set into existing jewellery. You can find our Resetting policies and form here.
Era Design does not accept loose gemstones or diamonds supplied by clients.
We have established long standing relationships with our trusted suppliers, and solely source our stones from them. Stones of unknown or unverified provenance can be treated with undisclosed hazardous processes and could be unsafe for our goldsmiths and stone setters to work with.
Yes! When starting a custom job, we take an initial deposit (starting at $500 + tax) with the outstanding balance due once the project is completed. You are also welcome to make payments throughout the process.
Custom designed pieces are not eligible for return or exchange due to their inherently personal nature. If this is a concern, we suggest purchasing one of our available in stock pieces. Stock pieces are eligible for return or exchange within 30 days, provided they are unaltered and unworn. You can find our full Return Policy here.
Era Design retains copyright on all jewellery we design, develop, and manufacture. All sketches, wax models, and samples provided during this process remain the property of Era Design and can be used again by Era Design at any time.
We do not offer exclusivity for clients on any designs we create. The reason clients choose Era Design is because of our unique style, however, there are common threads that make each piece recognizable as our own. Given constraints in materials and techniques, there are a finite number of designs possible for rings. Over thousands of years, artisans have drawn upon a shared history of ring manufacture and design. Due to social media, design trends often emerge rapidly online, and we frequently receive multiple requests for similar styles at the same time. We do our best to represent these trends in our portfolio, while at the same time respecting other designers' work and retaining Era Design's signature style.
